People have come to expect choice and convenience in many areas of their life and this now extends to healthcare, too. For the pharmaceutical industry, this means designing and manufacturing medicines that are not only effective, but also pleasant, convenient, and fit neatly into patients’ lifestyles.

Packaging, as well as the dosage form itself, plays an integral role in improving user experiences and making medicines more convenient. For ease of dosing, medicines may be packaged in a single-dose format ensuring that no measuring or calculation is required. A single-dose format is also easier for patients to carry with them and administer when they are out and about. Well-designed packaging may include tear notches for quick access, while also remaining child-proof and tamper-proof. Most importantly, the contents will be protected from degradation or spoiling. Here we look at how the right choice of packaging can enhance the convenience provided by user-friendly dosage forms.
